Project Brief
Our client in Alwoodley, Leeds contacted us to renovate their double-level staircase, which was beginning to look dated and tired. With two flights of stairs, both in a double winder configuration, the goal was to create a cohesive, timeless look that added warmth, value, and longevity to the home.
They wanted a material that would stand the test of time, feel solid underfoot, and elevate the overall feel of their hallway and landings — without the mess or cost of a full staircase replacement.
Our Solution
We stripped their old staircase back to the original woo, making one or two repairs to fix a few squeaky steps. We carried out a full staircase renovation, transforming both levels with premium materials and professional craftsmanship:
Solid Oak Staircase Cladding
We overclad every tread and riser across both staircases in beautiful, natural solid oak, giving the stairs a luxurious and seamless finish. Oak was the perfect choice for this home, offering incredible durability, a warm grain pattern, and a classic look that suits both modern and traditional interiors.
Double Winder Configuration
Both staircases featured double winders, which we carefully measured and clad to ensure a precise, flush fit. These curved or angled steps are notoriously tricky, but our bespoke cladding method ensures a smooth flow from bottom to top, with no visible fixings or gaps.
Anti-Slip Hardwax Oil Finish
Once installed, we treated the entire staircase with a high-performance anti-slip hardwax oil, offering a natural satin finish while improving grip and long-term protection. This treatment not only enhances the oak’s colour and grain but also protects it from daily wear, moisture, and dirt — ideal for busy family homes.
The Result
The finished staircase is now a standout feature in the home — warm, welcoming, and incredibly solid underfoot. The transformation brought a sense of craftsmanship and quality to the entire hallway, turning what was once a tired feature into a statement piece.
The natural light reflects beautifully off the satin-finished oak, and each step now offers a safe, comfortable climb thanks to the anti-slip treatment. Our client was thrilled with the result — a staircase that looks like it was built entirely from solid timber, without the cost and disruption of a full rebuild.
